Escape Kitty

So I Have This Friend: Give your best advice to this friend.
So I have this friend... Despite feeling slighted that her future in-laws refused to include her on the family vacation, she offered to take care of their cat while they were all away. However, the cat darted out the door the very first time she went over to feed him. She searched and called kitty's name for hours but he has not returned. Everyone is due back from vacation tomorrow. What should she tell them?

P.S. This is a "replacement" category for Storytime. Let's give it a try and see how it goes. If you have a friend in need of advice, please submit it here.

We have a Winner! (12/19/09)
If your cat liked you,
He'd have come back already.
Try being nicer.
Winner: Inspired Dreamer
Reason: Short, sweet and to the point. And haiku!

Write them a nice note explaining what happened and then walk away from this family and never look back. If your future husband really loved you, he would not tolerate you not being welcomed with your future family on their vacation. This family is bad news. Take this as a sign and leave. The right man is out there - it's just not the one you are engaged too.

Your cat and I have a lot in common.

He felt abandonded, and left to only be visited by strangers. He felt he was not a family member, but a mere toy. Funny, I feel the same way.

I am sorry that he and I both have had to leave to find friendship and love.

Perhaps we can all learn from this lesson.

Tell them the truth when they come back. You'll learn plenty from their reaction. BTW, in MY book a grown up that goes on a family vacation with parents raises plenty of warning flags for in-law troubles.

Run away. This seems like a no win situation. Don't be brave, just run away. There are plenty of other guys out there. Just run away.

Get another cat from the animal shelter and dye it some outrageous color.

"Funny story how it happened... There was this saucer hovering over the yard, see, and Fluffy went to investigate. I told him to come back, but no, he wouldn't listen! So I ran out after him, but just as I was about to reach him this beam came down and he disappeared! Pft! Just like that! So I went inside to call the police, and not ten minutes later as I was putting down the phone, Fluffy walked in the door looking very confused and like he'd escaped from a mad hairdesser's. The poor dear! I've been taking care of him like a baby every since, but he's just the same. The poor darling!"

When those poor homeowners come back,
An explanation you will not lack.
When they look for the cat,
Just give them a pat,
And say, "Sorry. I needed a snack."

I apologize for the extreme poor taste of this response. No animals were harmed in the writing of it.
